Chicago - Day Two
Kevin and I have now been in Chicago for two days. So much to see, so little time! So far, we've been to the Sears Tower skydeck, the ESPN Zone, the Shedd Aquarium, the Adler Planetarium, the Field Museum of Natural History, Soldier Field, Navy Pier, and the Hancock Observatory.
Tomorrow is Harpo Studios (where Oprah tapes), the United Center and to the White Sox game.
There's so much to say about Chicago - both good and bad.
First, the good:
It's beautiful. Lake Michigan is so clean and blue-green tinted - it's like being on the Miami coastline or something, and there are so many museums and different things to do. There are tulips planted all over the downtown area, giving it a very colorful atmosphere. The pizza is awesome - stuffed with pretty much whatever you want, and they had the brilliant idea of putting tomatoes and onions on hot dogs. Oh, and you can buy this from street vendors and not die from food poisoning. Big plus. I give big props to Chicago. It's been a cool place to visit.
On the down side, it's (of course) a big city, so you get all the extremes that go with it. They have this area called the Magnificent Mile that's filled with all the trendy (and expensive) boutiques and stores. People spend big money in this area. And for every rich person who's overspending, there's a poor person sitting outside asking for money so they can eat. And the rich don't seem to notice the homeless and the hungry as they walk down the street sporting their name brand items. It's such a contrasting lifestyle, and it's really sad.
And it's frickin' cold here. Texas knows not what cold is.
My Texan self brought tank tops and flip flops...and a denim jacket that's currently saving my life. Sort of. That's all I'm gonna say about that.
